This is a waffle towel, so it works differently from a plush one. The weave lifts the surface into a grid of ridges and hollows, which puts more edges against your skin and moves water faster with less bulk to carry.
It dries quickly between rounds, which matters more than it sounds. A towel that is still damp on the second round is not much use, and a heavy towel takes all evening to come back.
