Oak Headrest

Lying back on a bench means finding somewhere for your head, and a plank is a poor answer.

This is a small oak platform carrying four turned discs, set in two pairs with a gap down the middle. Your head rests on the upper pair and the back of your neck sits over the gap, so the weight lands on the flat of the skull rather than on the spine.

Each disc stands on a short metal post, which lifts them clear of the base and lets air move underneath. The base is a rounded shape with the edges eased, cut so it sits flat and stays put on a bench slat.

It is small enough to carry in one hand and to put away on a shelf when the room is cold.

Set it down, lie back, and let your shoulders drop.
