The taper is the whole idea. The vessel is wider at the rim than at the base, so it tips forward willingly when you pour and it sits down small when it is stored. The surface carries fine turned lines from the way the body is formed, running in close rings all the way around. They catch the light without shining.

The grip is one flat bamboo stave lying against the outside wall and running well past the rim, so your hand stays clear of the water and clear of the heat coming off the stones.

Fill it before the room comes up, and leave it near the bench.
