Description
The stones are what actually make the heat. The element warms them, they hold it, and when the water hits they give it back all at once.
These are split rather than tumbled, so every face is a flat break with sharp edges. That is the point. Broken faces stack loosely and leave air gaps right through the bed, which is how heat and steam move up through it. Rounded stones pack tight and choke that.
They come dark charcoal grey, dry and dusty, in sizes from about a fist down to a plum, so you can pack the larger ones low and the smaller ones into the gaps.
Thirty kilos, which fills most domestic heaters.
Stack them loose, not tight, and leave the element room to breathe.
